The temporary employee worked for Winchester's Summer Adventure Program, run by the Recreation Department, in 2021 and 2022, Town Manager Beth Rudolph said in a letter sent out to parents who had children enrolled in the program at the time of the alleged misconduct.
The program is offered to students entering first through sixth grade, according to the department's website. The programs are held at the Lynch Elementary School.
"I understand that this news will be unsettling for families to hear," Rudolph said. "The care and safety of children participating in our Recreation Department’s programs is of utmost importance to the Town, and we respect the trust that you place in us when caring for your children."
The worker's actions have been reported to the Department of Children and Families (DCF) and Winchester Police, Rudolph added.
The Middlesex County District Attorney's Office is also assessing the incident while the town is actively reviewing their policies, procedures and hiring practices for the Recreation Department.
Anyone with information regarding the ongoing investigation is asked to contact Winchester Police at 781-729-0238. Any further questions can be directed towards the Town Manager's Office at 781-721-7133.
